Narrative

RICHARD and ANN were 26 when they got married. They had 9 children, all baptised at All Saints Church in Nafferton, 2 miles from Wansford where they were living. Their daughter Harriot was buried the day after she was baptised but all other children appear to have lived into adulthood. The family moved to Hull between 1815 (youngest child Sims baptised) and 1822 (daughter Elizabeth married in Hull).
RICHARD was a carpet weaver and probably encouraged his five sons to take up a trade of their own.
- son George was a Shoe Maker.
- son John was a Labourer.
- sons Robert and RICHARD were bakers.
- son Sims was a cabinet/furniture maker.
When they were living in Hull:
- 1822 daughter Elizabeth married William West a baker. He died aged 46. Family is well off. ### why? evidence? ### Elizabeth lives to be 86.
- 1823 son John - married in 1851 census. ############# 1841 census not found. ######## children? #######
- 1825 RICHARD was buried aged 54.
- 1827 son George married. 1841 living in Hull. Probably didn't go to Manchester.
- 1831 son RICHARD married Mary Wright from Lincolnshire. She may have moved to Hull for work.
The 3 youngest children, who were all single, went to Manchester.
- 1835 son Robert married in Manchester. His wife was from Yorkshire so they probably met in Hull.
- 1835 daughter Ann married in Manchester. ###### 1841 no census for Ann #########
- 1839 son Sims married in Manchester. Wife was from Manchester so presumably Sims was there a year or so earlier. Their second child was baptised in Hull in 1841. ########### no 1841 census #########.
1841 census
- son Robert is back in Hull where he stayed until he died in 1874. He probably went back to look after his mother.
- son RICHARD is still in Hull, but he went to Manchester with his family before 1851, when they were staying with his widowed sister Ann.
- daughter Ann (widow) and married son Sims were probably living in Manchester.
Wife ANN died in January 1842 aged 70.
