Narrative

Richard and Mary were both 20 when they married in St Mary, Sculcoates, the church where Richard's father was buried 6 years earlier. Richard's family were living in Sculcoates but their first child Mary was born and baptised in Lincolnshire where Mary's family were living.
Richard worked as a baker in Hull, with a short stint as a seaman (he was away from home for the baptism of one of his children) before moving to Ancoats between 1841 and 1851 with his family, where he worked as a baker and an engine driver. Richard may have moved to Manchester to help his widowed sister Ann and family, whose husband died in 1847, as Richard and his family were living with Ann and her family in 1851. Richard died in 1852 aged 44.
