DAUGHTER JANET
Jean Fluckhard, the daughter of Alexander Fluckhard in Cockenzie, was compeared (summoned) before the Tranent Kirk Session on 24th January 1768, in the following terms: "Jean Fluckhard, an unmarried young woman, brought forth a child on 4th July 1767, in her father's house. That Richard Mocket a sailor, was the father, and that the child was begot in Leith during her stay there, and that she acquainted him of being with child to him. That he was abroad at present, and that she had not heard from him since he went away, and had no letters to produce acknowledging himself to be the father. Declared further that the child was baptised at Edinburgh by Mr Lee, an Episcopalian minister, and that her sister and sister-in-law were witnesses. She was reproved for her fornication, and was desired to get a letter from Richard Mocket acknowledging himself to be the father of the child, and told that she behoved to lie under scandal till that should be done, and apply to the Session to have her scandal removed."
MARRIAGE
When Jean was 20, and her daughter was 4, she married William Stewart, in Edinburgh. William and Jean were "compeared" (summoned) before the Tranent Kirk sometime between 26 October 1770 (previous entry) and 30 November 1770 (following entry), where they produced their marriage licence from Edinburgh. Their marriage in Edinburgh has not been found.
CHILDREN
William and Jean had two children together, James and William.
DEATH
Has not been found. Her husband may have been buried in Prestonpans, where there are a number of William Stewart burials. Her married daughter Janet was buried in Prestonpans.
