FAMILY LIFE
Sampson and his wife Mary named their first two children after themselves. Their next son was called Richard, named after his grandfather, and the previous two generations. Their next child was a daughter Sarah who only lived to be a few weeks old. They named their fifth and last child Sarah.

FATHER'S DEATH AND WILL
Three years after their last child was born, Sampson's father died. Sampson inherited Hopeville House in Church Street, with malthouse, cornhouse, outhouses, stable, gardens and orchards totalling 9 acres. He also inherited his father's share of the Fishing Boat or Vessel, of which George Hurst deceased was the late Master, and John Hurst his brother is now Master. His elder brother Isaac inherited Dumptons farm house and 50 acres of land, which was adjacent to Hopeville House. Isaac had to pay his brother Sampson 100 pounds, his brother Elijah 200 pounds, and his mother 22 pounds a year. His younger brother Elijah, inherited 3 small houses and gardens, in a place called Kingjoule. A parcel of land at Sowells Hill. Isaac's share of the Fishing Boat or Vessel, of which William Mockett deceased was the late Master, and Daniel Foord is now Master.

SAMPSON'S WILL
Shortly after his father died, Sampson wrote his own will. There is no mention of the house or the other properties he inherited from his father, but he did still own them as shown in the Poll Book of the same year. Sampson bequeathed one hundred pounds to each of his sons, Sampson and Richard, when they reached the age of twenty one. To his daughters Mary and Sarah, he bequeathed eighty pounds each, when they reached the age of twenty one or their day of Marriage. All the "rest and residue residue of any Monies Goods Corn Grain Malt Chattels Cattle Effects and Personal Estate whatsoever" he bequeathed to his wife Mary who was the sole executrix of the will.

DEATH
Sampson died two years after writing his will, aged 38, leaving his wife Mary with four children: Mary 17, Sampson 14, Richard 10, and Sarah 5.

CHILDREN
Sampson and Richard were 23 and 21 when they sailed from Thanet, Kent to Tranent, Scotland, never to return.
Daughters Mary and Sarah married Martin and Peter Cramp.
