Narrative

Mary was born in St Lucia, West Indies. Her father Simon was a policeman, who probably went to work there when the country was adopting representative government in the 1840s.
Mary's parents were both Irish, and they married in Ireland before heading to St Lucia, They probably returned to England rather than Ireland because the potato famine had taken hold in Ireland.
After Mary married David Brammall, they lived with David's family for about 5 years, where their first two daughters were born. The first is named Isabella after David's mother, and the second is named Ann Jane after Mary Jane's mother.
Mary and her husband David were were buried in Philips Park Cemetery in separate graves, but relatively near each other. The gravestone for Mary is still there.
