Narrative

Maria Smith aka Ria (rhymes with tyre) was an unmarried mother. Her son Frank was best man for Ron Fisher when he got married.
Her father died just after she was born. Mother remarried but died when Ria was 8 or 9.
1891 census Ria was living between Edward Coyle and Mary and uncle William and auntie Mary Horrocks.
1901, 1911 and 1921 census she is living with her uncle William and auntie Mary Horrocks and their children.
1922 she had an illegitimate son, for which the family never forgave her, and she never married.
1939 living with her aunt Mary Horrocks and 2 of her cousins in Chapter Street. With her son Frank, who was the best man at his cousin Ron Fisher's wedding.
Gary remembers visiting her when he was young and she was in her seventies. She was a lovely lady but she had a hairy chin that Gary couldn't stop staring at!
