My Family Tree - Ferrier, ELIZABETH

Narrative

1874 Elizabeth's husband dies. Her brother in law Thomas Salt died in 1872, so Elizabeth and her sister Mary Ann, are now both widows. In 1851, 1861 and 1871 the sisters are recorded as being born in Halifax, Yorkshire. In 1881 (when widowed) they are recorded as being born in Glasgow and Stafford respectively. What could be the reason for (presumably) lying about their birthplaces to their husbands, even after their mother had died in 1857?
