BIRTH
William Stewart was a common name, so a number of births/baptisms have been found. None of these are in Hamilton, which is where he was from: according to his daughter Janet's marriage, and the place where Janet's son Joseph was baptised. The closest baptism to Tranent and Cockenzie is Gladsmuir, which is about 4 miles from each. This would make William 9 years older than Janet, which is consistent with the "1990 Professional Research for Stewart and Mocket", which said this was William's second marriage.
MARRIAGE
There are only two William Stewart marriages in Tranent, this William who married Janet Mocket in Edinburgh 1787, and the William Stewart who married Jean Fleuker (Janet's unmarried mother) in Edinburgh in 1770, three years after Janet was born.
CHILDREN
All children were baptised in Tranent, and those with a birthplace were born 2 miles away in Cockenzie where William worked as a Mariner/Sailor.
DEATH
Died in Cockenzie and buried in Prestonpans aged 65 or 68.
