Narrative

Sabrina was the third of 7 children but not much is known about 3 of her siblings. Sabrina got married just after her 19th birthday, and her sister Roxana, got married the following year, when she was 18. Sabrina's younger sister Ophelia (who was deaf) and brother Ambrose waited until they were 35 before getting married, both staying at home to look after their mother following the death of their father. Ophelia and Ambrose were both living with their mother in 1851. In 1859 aged 24, Ambrose was convicted of bastardy and sentenced to one month in prison for "neglecting an order of bastardy". He was 5 feet 11 inches tall, which was taller than all the other inmates on the page. In 1861, he was living with his mother, his future wife and her 2 young children. They were married in 1869.
Sabrina and her husband Edward had 12 children in 20 years. Her sister Roxanna had 16 children. Sabrina died 3 days after her daughter Florence was baptised, probably as a result of sepsis contracted during childbirth.
Sabrina's previous child Lucy was not baptised until almost two years after this, on 2 June 1867. Before this, on 19 Nov 1865, two of Lucy's older siblings were baptised, but Lucy wasn't. There was a family tradition of delayed baptisms, and there were three "double" baptisms, but Lucy is the only child that was baptised after a younger sibling had been baptised. Florence was probably ill, and not expected to live very long, and she died when she was 5 months old. The complete list of children in birth order and their ages when baptised is:
